When you will describe these two characters you will
obviously notice a great difference in both of them. One is: one of the friends
is loyal to another one but another one is disloyal. It’s similar to saying
that a Wolf’s in a Sheep’s clothing.
George R. R. Martin is very creative in portraying the
betrayal of Theon Greyjoy, the only living true son of Baelon Greyjoy of the
Iron Islands, to his best friend Robb Stark. Robb Stark and Theon Greyjoy both
were grown together in the Winterfell. Theon was brought by Ned Stark to
Winterfell after the Robert’s army killed every living son of Baelon Greyjoy. Robb
was pre-destined to be the Lord of Winterfell and the Warden of the North while
Theon would only serve Robb as a loyal companion.
Further, as the story progressed Ned Stark was kept as a
captive for being a traitor on a false charge of committing crime against the
crown. Robb Stark got angry about the news. He remembered how his Grandfather
and Uncle were burned by the Mad King when they entered King’s Landing. Robb
blindly declared war against the crown declaring himself ‘the King’ with the
help of his loyal companion, one of whom was Theon, and named himself as the
King in the North. Later on, during the war preparation Robb sends Theon to Iron
Islands where he could request his real father to assist Robb for the war
against the Crown. Instead, under the command of his father Theon captures
Winterfell for the Iron-Borne. To gain power Theon even executes Ser Rodrick
infront of the acting Lord of Winterfell Brandon Stark. Anyway Theon learns his
lesson when he couldn’t defend Winterfell from Boltons, long time enemy of the
House Stark.
In this way, we can recapitulate the betrayal of one
character to another. So, we should learn to chose our friends wisely.
